Inaugural lecture--Department of Electrical Engineering, Rand Afrikaans University, 12 May 1976@@The production of energy is identified as perhaps the most challenging technological problem facing modern man. The problem is first discussed from a general systems point of view, and then the various possible technological solutions are examined. It is shown that environmental energy sources, which have been neglected in the past because of the abundance of "cheap" fossil fuels, can make a meaningful contribution
to mankinds' need for energy.
