Inaugural lecture--Department of Mathematics, Rand Afrikaans University, 10 May 1971@@The development and methods of Euclidean and nonEuclidean, affine and projective geometry, and topology are sketched. The author expresses the opinion that in teaching mathematics, geometry should be considered just as important as algebra and analysis, and should therefore receive equal attention. Further, the ideas of Felix Klein should be introduced at high school level.
