Inaugural lecture--Department of Industrial Psychology, Rand Afrikaans University, 14 June 1982@@Historically the activities of the industrial psychologist can be viewed as relating either to the science of psychology (with an emphasis on research) or to the profession of psychology (with an emphasis on the application of knowledge and insight into practical problems). In this regard it should, however, be emphasized that a very delicate interface exists between these two branches of applied psychology. Both the universities (as far as training is concerned) and private practice (as far as the application of industrial psychology is concerned) must recognise and obey this interface if they want to be successful in their efforts to minimize human problems in industry.
